Here is Olivers birth story.
I woke up to my alarm going off at 5:30 am on Thursday December 30, 2010. I showered, and then called the hospital to see if they had a room available for me to be induced. They did!! We got to the hospital shortly after 7:00 am. I was in my room and changed by 7:15. Then we waited. And waited. My nurse came in and said that they called my OB, and the one on call didn't know that I was being induced today. But to go ahead and start me on a petocin drip, and she would be in shortly. So the nurse started asking me a gazillion questions. Finally at about 8:30, my OB showed up. She came in to check on me, and asked the nurse if I had been checked. Nope. So she checked me and determined that I was dilated to a 2, that Oliver was at -2 position. After she left, the nurse finally started prepping me for my IV. While trying to insert the needle, which took 3 tries, my blood pressure dropped to 60/29. So then we had to wait for my blood pressure to stabilize before we could start the petocin. Finally at about 9:30, petocin drip was started. Then, more waiting. And waiting. At noon, my OB came in again and asked if I had been checked recently. Nope, not since she did it that morning. So she checked me. I was dilated to a 4, and the head was still at a -2 position. At that point they broke my water with the understanding that the anesthesiologist would be right in to give me an epidural. The anesthesiologist comes in, gives me the low down on all the risks and everything, then gets a call and there is an emergency he has to go help with. He says he will be right back. Mean while the contractions start to get a lot worse, longer in length and are about 2 minutes apart. An hour and half later, at about 1:30, I finally get my epidural. 15 minutes later, the contractions are hurting through the epidural. About then my OB comes to check on me. Once again she asks if I have been checked recently. Nope, not since she did it at noon. So she checks me. I am dilated to 10, and ready to push. So they bring in all the equipment and at 2:05 pm, I start to push. And at 2:14 pm, my beautiful little Oliver was born. He weighed 9 pounds 11 ounces and was 21 inches long. A perfect little boy to add to my perfect little family.
